Play for Peace In Guatemala
Guatemala is a dynamic country where more than 23 cultures practice distinctly different languages, styles of dress and religious customs. It is also a country that suffers from continuing political strife and spiraling poverty. Yet Guatemalans embody incredible strength and hope as the reconciliation process begins to unfold.
In the summer of 1997, Play for Peace came to Guatemala and linked up with La Hermandad Educativa, a collective of three Spanish schools run by Guatemalans. Two local coordinators were hired, one from the urban area, and one from the rural area, and we were on our way!
For the first time in the history of Guatemala, people created a network of understanding and communication across political, religious, and class lines. Play for Peace – Guatemala made it happen.
