Shavishav, a volunteer organization committed to the rights of children, is an active partner with Play for Peace in improving community relations and educational opportunities. Community Education Centres (CECs) provide non-formal education to child laborers and first-generation learners and help them prepare for joining the formal education system. Currently, Shavishav reaches out to over 450 children through 12 centers and has helped approximately 5,000 children enter full-time schools.
Through Shavishav's Mobile Resource Center (MRC), every week books and other learning material are brought to more than 20,000 children in 51 different centers and schools.
For the past few years, Play for Peace has worked as part of a bridge program, bringing together children from private schools and municipal schools. Activities, such as child-to-child teaching programs and camps, have enabled children of different castes, religions, and economic status to form lasting friendships.
After the communal riots in Gujarat, the "Play Together, Stay Together" program was developed. Based upon the idea that even in times of bitter conflict, children of different religions who play and learn together will continue to interact harmoniously when they grow older.
