Heart of Los Angeles (HOLA) Shares Peace in the Compassion Games

Games, laughter, lessons learned, and nearly 12 people impacted, the Heart of Los Angeles (HOLA) Play for Peace group brought a wonderful, peaceful message to the Compassion Games.

The group participated in the Creativity Challenge, leading an activity with their fourth and fifth graders that asked one question: What are you doing? The kids laughed and got creative with their answers. The premise of the game is that whatever the person says they’re doing, the rest of the group has to emulate. HOLA met the Mindfulness Challenge with a session on mindful eating. Each member of the group was given two grapes. The first grape was eaten normally, but the second grape was examined mindfully. The group studied its appearance and weight, where it might have been grown, who may have harvested it, and all the lives it touched along the way. Then, they ate the grape with that awareness and mindfulness. The group members shared that they usually take food for granted and rarely considered its impact on others and what affect our consumption has on the planet and other people.
