How One Volunteer Would Create A Peaceful World

Now through June, Play for Peace is partnering with the experiential learning app Kikori to develop a one-stop-shop for activity plans -- a project powered by an international group of volunteers dubbed the Content Crew. Meet one of the team members whose time and talents are bringing high-quality activities to facilitators around the world.

Profession: Historian, Development practitioner, and Educator

What do you do on the Content Crew? “On the Content crew, I am responsible for support writing and editing of experiential learning activities. I like activities that talk about oppression and privilege because they help build infrastructure for positive peace by creating platforms for open discussions that foster unity and cooperation thus helping achieve sustainable development goals, particularly goal number 16 which advocates for peace Justice, and strong institutions.”

What's your favorite Kikorified activity so far, and why? “...the Privilege Identification Activity by Marilyn Levin and Lea Arellano (2010), is applicable in explaining social, political, and economic privileges and their cost in diverse communities.”

If you had a blank check to do one thing to bring peace to your community (however you define community), what would you do? “Given a blank check to bring about peace in my community, I would focus on building the infrastructure for positive peace, that is, creating an environment that shapes attitudes and institutions for unity, cooperation, and peaceful coexistence of humanity.

To me, that is a sustainable strategy in peacebuilding because it focuses on the social fabric and on primary socialization which shapes human behavior thus helping mold responsible citizens. With responsible citizens, the world will be a better place free from violent and non-violent threats to peace and security.”
