Awakening Through Movement

In early 2025, a quiet transformation began unfolding at Kalaimagal School in Kandy, Sri Lanka. Through a series of Play for Peace sessions led by master trainers Swati Bhatt and Agyatmitra, students discovered that play could be more than just fun, it could be a path to self-awareness, confidence, and connection.

For many, it was the first time they felt their minds and bodies truly align.

In a traditional academic environment, students often focus on memorization and exams. But during these sessions, the classroom transformed into a space of laughter, movement, and reflection.

Students like Nabi and Shanika shared that they had never experienced such freedom to express themselves. Through games and storytelling, they began to understand their emotions, collaborate with peers, and step into leadership roles.

One student remarked, “I finally felt my mind and body align.”

From Participants to Leaders

As the sessions progressed, students not only participated but also facilitated activities. They learned to guide their peers, provide feedback, and create inclusive environments.

This shift empowered them to see themselves as leaders, capable of making positive changes in their school and community.

The impact extended beyond the classroom, fostering a culture of empathy, cooperation, and active participation.

The success at Kalaimagal School is part of a broader movement across Sri Lanka, where Play for Peace initiatives are re-rooting peace through connection and community engagement.

By integrating play into education, students are developing the social-emotional skills necessary for personal growth and societal harmony.

This approach is not only transforming individual lives but also contributing to a more compassionate and resilient society.

The journey at Kalaimagal School illustrates the profound impact of experiential learning and cooperative play.
