World Peace Day Wednesday - Volunteers Needed!

It’s World Peace Day Wednesday! Last week, we told you about ways you can get involved with our World Peace Day Run/Walk, which will be held at the Bartlett Nature Center in Bartlett, IL, on Saturday, September 24. This week, we’re sharing some other ways you can get involved besides signing up as a sponsor or registering or donating on Crowdrise. The World Peace Day Fall Run/Walk is shaping up to be a great event. We’ve already got some teams registered, and they’re starting to raise funds for Play for Peace, too. (You can join them here.) We’re starting to receive wonderful donations for our silent auction, too: We’ve already got Second City tickets and autographed sports memorabilia. If you love Chicago-style deep-dish pizza, we’ve got a gift card from Lou Malnati’s. If you’re action-oriented, we have gift cards from Four Lakes Alpine Sports for downhill skiing and Vertical Endeavors for indoor rock climbing. These prizes will all be part of our silent auction packages.

Help us promote our event! Especially because we’re hosting a 5k run for the first time, we really want to make our event a success. If you’re in the Chicago area, we could really use your help with promoting and marketing the event. We have flyers and posters to distribute, and we would love to go out to more Chicagoland festivals and events this month to meet people and distribute our materials. If you’re great at making phone calls, we’re busy selling our affordable sponsorship packages to local businesses. We also need help getting local businesses, schools, and organizations to form teams and register to participate in the event. If you think you can help us with promoting the event, please visit our Event Marketing Volunteer job description on Volunteer Match.

Volunteer at the event If you’re not able to participate as a runner or walker on Saturday, September 24th, we could also really use your help as a day-of-event volunteer. We’ll be on the grounds of the Bartlett Nature Center early on Saturday morning, and we need volunteers to help us set up the event, time our 5k run, and clean up, too. Here’s a list of the volunteer support we are wishing for:

  • Setup, greeters, registration volunteers (needed 8 am) - 4 -6 volunteers
  • Event Activities - At least 10 - 12 volunteers   (Help with henna painting, craft tables, face painting, "educational/passport" activities)
  • Clean-up (3pm - 6pm) - 4 -6 volunteers
  • Water stations on run/walk courses - At least 4 -6 volunteers
  • Run and Walk set-up (8 am) – 4 -6 volunteers
  • 5K run timers – At least 2-3 volunteers

We don’t have all of these positions listed on Volunteer Match yet, so if you think you would like to help us as an event volunteer, please contact Katie Baumann at Katie@playforpeace.org. We hope you will find a way to get involved with the World Peace Day Fall Run/Walk in Chicago! It’s a great way to enjoy the Fall season and support Play for Peace. We hope you will join us!
