An Exciting Week of World Peace Day Celebrations

Tomorrow, September 21, is World Peace Day, which the U.N. General Assembly has declared as “a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and peoples.” In honor of this important global celebration, we are excited about the many wonderful efforts happening in the Play for Peace global community—from our clubs’ World Peace Day activities to our annual Fall 5K event.

This week our clubs, along with the rest of our global community, not only celebrated World Peace Day, but also commemorated Play for Peace’s 21st anniversary. We are so proud of all that we’ve accomplished so far and look forward to what is to come!

Some of our clubs also held special practice peace sessions in honor of World Peace Day. As part of our September Global Games, our clubs in Vietnam, Myanmar, Guatemala, and India conducted Play for Peace activities that brought together their communities and brought joy to all who participated.

Beyond these joyous celebrations, our regional coordinators, along with Play for Peace executive director, Sarah Gough, joined in the spirit of World Peace Day. In the final mini webinar in our Celebrating and Spreading Peace Series, each person shared his or her favorite Play for Peace activity. Check out the webinar here!

Tomorrow is set to bring more exciting events for Play for Peace. World Peace Day marks the launch the prototype of Play for Peace 2.0, the mobile app we are creating in partnership with Kikori and the College of Health and Human Services at the University of New Hampshire, which will help our community to better facilitate training sessions and serve as a database for Play for Peace activities and a hub for data collection. Starting tomorrow, our community can sign up to be part of the beta launch and test out the app in conjunction with Play for Peace activities. We are excited about this amazing opportunity to merge technology with cooperative play!

Finally, tomorrow is the seventh annual Play for Peace Fall 5K! Hundreds of runners and walkers will hit the trails of the Bartlett Nature Center in Bartlett, IL, for a 5K run and one mile walk, as well as a family-friendly event that includes cooperative play activities, pumpkin decorating, carnival games, a live animal show, an international food festival, a silent auction, and much more. No matter how you celebrate World Peace Day tomorrow, make sure it is a day that brings laughter, compassion, and peace.
