For the past seven years, Play for Peace has hosted a live 5K race to celebrate World Peace Day and support our efforts to create compassion, connection, and community around the world. We’ve drawn hundreds of runners and families each year and raised thousands of dollars to support young leaders in areas affected by conflict. However, like many things in 2020, this year our celebration will look a little different. This year, we’re going virtual!
From September 1–30, we’re hosting Level Up: Race for Humanity, a virtual effort to move in solidarity with fellow Play for Peace community members around the world. In a time where we must be physically distant, this exciting event will connect our global community through movement and community action. This year, anyone, from anywhere, can join us!
During the month of September, participants of all ages will complete physical activities—i.e. running, walking, or bike riding—on their own or with family, friends, and peers while following social distancing guidelines. They’ll also participate in local acts of kindness, compassion, and community-building and share their experiences and training journeys via social media using the hashtag #leveluphumanity2020. All registrants will receive a digital toolkit that includes Play for Peace activities, step-by-step instructions for leveling up, and the opportunity to join optional challenges taught by coaches and teachers from around the world.
As one global community we will:
- Raise funds to train, recruit, and support young leaders in the United of States and more than 50 areas of conflict around the world.
- Level up our efforts to create community during this trying time. Train your heart, mind, body, and spirit!
- Move and train together culminating in a race of your choice. No matter where you live or what time zone you live in, you can participate! Choose your distance of choice, train for the big day, and cross the finish line with the support of the entire Play for Peace global community.
