Celebrating a Successful World Peace Day Fall Run/Walk!

We’re still working toward our goal of $50,000, and fundraising will continue through November on our Crowdrise page.

The sun was shining on the 250 runners, walkers, and volunteers who came out to the Bartlett Nature Center last Saturday, September 24, for the World Peace Day Fall Run/Walk. This was our fourth annual celebration of the International Day of Peace, which is celebrated every year on September 21.

With donations still coming in, we have raised nearly $30,000 so far, thanks to our event sponsors, individual and team participants, and those who bid on and purchased silent auction packages. We’re still working toward our goal of $50,000, and fundraising will continue through November on our Crowdrise page.

Ron Kovich, a Play for Peace board member, organized our silent auction and summed up the event this way:

“The recent Run/Walk for Peace attracted our largest audience ever, approximately 250 people.  They were treated to a fun day of games, trail walk and run, face painting, crafts, music, and much more. Our silent auction contained many valuable items such as Bears and Bulls tickets, Rizzo signed baseball, Toews signed puck, and much more. We also had many gift baskets containing restaurant gift certificates, concert tickets, admission to major attractions, and many other items. We were thrilled at the many bids each basket or sports item generated. Most important, all the funds go to insuring we help solve conflicts throughout the world using cooperative play to bring laughter, compassion, and peace!!”

The race results are in, too! Our first-ever 5k run was a success, with 50 runners participating. You can view the race results, which will be updated shortly, right here. For race results by age group, click here.
