Compassion Games Recap: South Sudan (Update)

Nearly 3,000 people participated in the Compassion Games activities organized by Play For Peace South Sudan.

The theme? #SolidarityForPeace. The activities? Play for Peace games and songs, drawing and writing messages of Peace, and discussions with teachers about Peace. The South Sudan team served 8 schools within Juba (John Garang, Seventh Day Adventist, Kapuri, Comprehensive, Giadha Boys, Gudele West, Yanet, and St. Kizito).

Throughout the events, the children expressed their need for Peace in South Sudan. Some even gave testimonies about how they were affected by the July 2016 and December 2013 crises that occurred in Juba. The Play For Peace groups took time to train staff members who will be closely working with children in the Child Friendly Spaces throughout South Sudan.

The group spent a day honoring unity by volunteering to clean up at the Alisabah Children's Hospital in Juba. To end the Compassion Game, they commemorated the International Day of Peace by having games, speeches, drama, eating, and moonballaton. The event was organized by the Integrated Development Organization, Hold the Child, and ADCORD, bringing together people from different backgrounds, including Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) from Mangaten Camp. During the celebration, the groups committed to work hard to achieve 17 sustainable goals over the next 15 years.
