Congratulations, MJT Service Award Winner Loren Rubin!

"It’s safe to say that Loren has totally immersed his organization and community into the Play for Peace model: helping hundreds of children, youth, and adults. In the 3 years he has contributed to Play for Peace, he has helped us move as an organization from Good to Great."

Loren Rubin is a certified trainer with Play For Peace who works as the Leadership Director for Heart of Los Angeles. HOLA is a not-for-profit organization that helps under-served youth: those affected by poverty, crime, violence, and depression. Founded in 1989, HOLA serves over 2300 youth, ages 6 - 24, by offering a rich array of after-school programs in academics, arts, and athletics. Loren is one of over 75 staff members, working alongside countless volunteers!

We are pleased to report that Loren was the recent winner of the Michael J. Terrien Service Award. Michael J. Terrien is a PFP co-founder, active board member, former president, and supporter! This award was created by executive director Sarah Gough in 2010 to honor Michael and those like him: the Play for Peace community members who work hard to make big changes. A little more about Loren: coming from a theater background, he uses these skills to create a powerful and purposeful environment for his Youth Facilitators. As the Leadership Director of HOLA, he has trained over 100 world-class Youth Facilitators and has created a place for Play for Peace in almost every aspect of his organization.

It has been 3 years since PFP introduced Hearts of Los Angeles (HOLA): Loren uses our model to create safe spaces of learning for his peace-makers. In the words of our co-founder Craig Dobkin:

"It brings great joy to see how Loren creates the Play for Peace Core Values in every training and Play Session. He has even created a paid Mentor position, for Jessica, a former Youth Facilitator who is now in college. I myself recently did a training at HOLA: Loren and his PFP Community offer a vibrant and exciting experience."

It’s safe to say that Loren has immersed his organization and community into the Play for Peace model: helping hundreds of children, youth and adults. In the 3 years he has contributed to Play for Peace, he has helped us move as an organization from Good to Great. Every week HOLA has youth facilitator training and multiple Play for Peace workshops. A remarkable accomplishment! Now is the time for our organization to honor Loren Rubin. Thank you, Loren, and congratulations! Loren will accept his award at this year's Feast For Peace festival in Illinois!
