Executive Director, Sarah Gough and Researcher, Dian Mitrayani Present at the International Conference on Conflict Resolution Education

In March, Play for Peace Executive Director, Sarah Gough, and Researcher, Dian Mitrayani presented an interactive workshop at the International Conference on Conflict Resolution Education, which was hosted at The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. The mission of this year's conference was to present tools to prepare Change Leaders of the Future in the spaces of social enterprise, innovation, and education. The conference was loaded with workshops surrounding peace education, community partnerships for peace, and self reflection for the purpose of teaching and exhibiting conflict resolution practices. Sarah began the session by taking workshop attendees through a Practice Peace session. Though there was some apprehension at first, the participants eventually loosened up and learned about the organization through cooperative play and active discussion. Once the participants had the opportunity to participate in the Practice Peace Session, Dian began to share findings from her research. Below, you'll find a brief overview of the research that was shared, which compelled many of the participants to inquire more about the work Play for Peace is doing. By evaluating where Play for Peace clubs are in the world, how the activities conducted during Practice Peace Sessions affect participants, and determining the impact of the program as a whole on participants and volunteers, the research will help us:
  1. Gain a deep understanding of the diversity in the Play for Peace community and how the diversity reflected in the Play for Peace model and methodology is being implemented in each region.
  2. Systematically and rigorously assess the impact and effectiveness of Play for Peace member participation on the members themselves and on others in their communities.
  3. Identify and make visible achievements, gaps, challenges, difficulties, and “keys” to success in order to identify concrete measures and practical steps and lessons that can improve the quality of work going forward.
