International Day of Charity - September 5

"Charity is one of the best investments we can make in our common future.  On this day of International Charity, I call on people everywhere to be part of our 15-year partnership for humanity, and to help make the Sustainable Development Goals a reality for all." - Ban Ki-moon

Every year, the International Day of Charity serves as a call to every person to act with solidarity and compassion in the face of human suffering. For this year’s observance, the world has a new focus for volunteering and giving: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.  This new universal framework, with 17 Sustainable Development Goals at its core, is the most comprehensive and ambitious anti-poverty, pro-planet action plan ever adopted by world leaders.  For it to work, we must unleash the full force of the human spirit. Global philanthropy continues to generate innovative approaches and provide much-needed resources.  An important new dimension is the dramatic rise of philanthropy in the global South, which is leading new actors to become involved in addressing local and global challenges. The International Day of Charity, observed this year on Tuesday, September 5, was established with the objective of sensitizing and mobilizing people, NGOs, and stakeholders all around the world to help others through volunteer and philanthropic activities. The idea of charity has moved from global banks providing aid to youth-involved global campaigns. Charity has moved from monetary contributions to active involvement. With students pledging to contribute alleviate world hunger and reduce energy consumption. It has never been easier to volunteer and devote time to charitable work. Play for Peace is a unique network, helping to move the needle on many of the UN's Sustainable Development goals. Volunteers have a wonderful opportunity to share, build on, and connect with the stories of each Play for Peace supporter, who collectively work toward the uplifting of distraught children all over the world. There are many networks which help connect motivated people to volunteer to various causes. Charity contributes to the promotion of dialogue, solidarity, and mutual understanding ?among people.?   Did you know?: 75% of Play for Peace's annual budget comes from in-kind donations from volunteers.
