Play for Peace at the Pune Kalmadi Secondary School, India

Every student was listened to patiently. Possibilities for new, improvised ways of learning and problem-solving were also figured out. I am sure that this Play For Peace learning session was a unique and awesome experience for everyone involved.

Today we invite you to read an exciting report by one of our Play for Peace trainers in India, Javeed! Thank you to Vishwas Parchure for the invitation to this event.

Working with a group of eager and engaged teenagers, students were able to laugh, play, and share ideas and concerns about their environment. Please enjoy...

From July 23 to July 31st, I was invited by to the Pune Kalmadi School in Pune, India. There I was asked to engage students in learning sessions using Play for Peace methods and tools for grade eleven students. The atmosphere was positive and, since the faculty itself was new, there were vibes of freshness. With two hours to enjoy, two sessions were held per class.

The outcomes were exhilarating: students got acquainted with and learned to fraternize with each other. This learning session was more or less a new experience for them. They never expected to be taught in such a lively manner! A behavior contract was also discussed, and it enabled students to discuss major issues that concerned them. It also inspired them to work on these issues.

I was fortunate to have had two opportunities to lead the group. In the second session, I had a big handful of new volunteers. Since we all knew a few games, we cooperated by both playing and learning the games together. Given the time constraints, it could have been a little difficult for the session to run smoothly. Luckily this was not the case. Every student was listened to patiently. Possibilities for new, improvised ways of learning and problem-solving were also figured out. I am sure that this Play For Peace learning session was a unique and awesome experience for everyone involved.
