Play for Peace in Vietnam: A New Day and the “United Value” Program

"I didn't have experience working with children so much before, but I believe I can learn and improve my skills from the experienced members of A New Day - I can follow them to teach many good things for children." - A volunteer from A New Day Play for Peace Club in Vietnam

Play for Peace Trainer Rita Nguyen reported that more than 100 children participated in a new program run by A New Day Play for Peace Club, called "United Value" on April 24, 2016. With ages ranging from 4 years old to 15 years, it was a successful program where the children as well some of the parents took part in a number of facilitated games. Held in the pagoda of "Truc Lam Bao Son," a local monastery, and led by 12 volunteers of A New Day Play for Peace Club, they facilitated all the meaningful activities for the children. The children were divided into four groups based on their ages: four to six years old, seven to nine years old, 10 -12 years, and over 12 years old. Vietnam - and-vungtau 103

Each group was given a private space for relevant activities that promoted the theme of United Values, and how they can build a united spirit in their group. At first, the children were shy, but as the activity progressed they changed quickly to be cheerful, dynamic, and enthusiastic in participating in the games led by the able volunteers. For some of the A New Day volunteers, this was their first time working with children. And it was a moving experience, as one of them shared: " I didn't have experience working with children so much before, but I believe I can learn and improve my skills from the experienced members of A New Day - I can follow them to teach many good things for children." Another volunteer also shared his experience: " I was very busy and tired preparing the activities with the New Day Members the previous night, but I'm so happy today to see the many smiles of the children. I could become a hero to them today. It's awesome." And it doesn't end here. It's only just the beginning. Vietnam - and-vungtau 252

A New Day group will be back at the pagoda with the children again when they run another program called "Love Value" in May. The children will be looking forward to returning to the pagoda at Truc Lam Bao Son. Vietnam - and-vungtau 392
