World Peace Day Wednesday: Meet Katie Baumann

"I definitely will pursue a career that has an international component, and I think NGOs, especially a nonprofit like Play for Peace, are incredible in the work that they do." - Play for Peace Intern Katie Baumann

Every Wednesday, we’ll be keeping you informed about plans to celebrate World Peace Day, both in the U.S. and around the world. Today, we would like to introduce you to Katie Baumann, who is a new intern with Play for Peace in Chicagoland for the summer. Katie will help us coordinate our newly renamed World Peace Day Fall Run/Walk in Bartlett, IL, USA. She’ll help us recruit event sponsors and participants, as well as design a course for our new 5k run.

Katie has been studying European Studies at Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland, which includes learning Spanish and Italian with an International Relations focus. She is going into the third year of her undergraduate program. Katie spoke with us recently about her background, interests, and plans for the future: “My parents are friends with [Play for Peace Co-Founder] Michael Terrien, who directed me towards submitting my resume to Play for Peace. I am interested in the NGO [non-governmental organization] aspect of International Relations, and I was keen on getting some experience and being able to see how an NGO works within the International Relations field.

“As for the future, I am still quite unsure, but I think working with an NGO would be incredibly cool. I definitely will pursue a career that has an international component, and I think NGOs, especially nonprofits like Play for Peace, are incredible in the work that they do. I would love to be able to help create an impact with the work that I do.” We welcome Katie to our global learning community. We know she will help Play for Peace create an impact by helping us plan a successful World Peace Day Fall Run/Walk.
