“Training youth coordinators in Kissi, Kenya and opening Play for Peace there was one of my proudest moments with Play for Peace.” Thozi works in a township called Khayelitsha, in Cape Town, South Africa. South Africa has a significant history of violence, and the area around Cape Town is host to many different cultures and belief systems. In 1997 Thozi got involved with a multicultural youth organization called Responsible Action Leadership Initiative. Play for Peace hosted a training sessions with RALI and introduced our vision and methodology. Thozi attended and in 1998, decided to join. “I really enjoyed what they were doing,” he explains. Thozi has been involved with Play for Peace outside South Africa, too. In 2003, he worked in Denver as a Play for Peace Coordinator. When Thozi joined Play for Peace in 1998, the goal in Cape Town was to bring black and colored communities together through play. He is now the co-founder of Sidlala Sifunda Company with other Play for Peace Alumni.
